Brendan D
Anyone else here in the Seattle area?
Pete L
Yes, I'm in Seattle. I was hoping to have a snow day or two this week, so I could stay home and get some extra piano practice in.
Brendan D
I'm up in Ballard, near Sunset Hill Park, above Golden Gardens...and you are where?
Pete L
I’m on Beacon Hill, near the light rail station.
Brendan D
What are you presently working through in PWJ? Though I have a long music background and taken piano lessons (in the classical vein), I find gaps in my skills that encouraged me to start with the Level 1 Learning Track. I complete some lessons, more or less, instantaneously; others take a bit o' work.
Pete L
I took piano lessons from when I was 8 to 12, but have not done much playing in the intervening 30+ years. I decided to start out at Level 1, even though I know all of my scales and triads. I was never exposed to lead sheets (in fact I had never heard about them until a year ago), so I don't want to miss anything regarding how to play them. I think I will get through all keys in Level 1 fairly quickly. I'm eager to get to the Level 2 7th course though, as this is new territory for me. Brendan D
I've decided to blend in some other courses (e.g., https://pianowithjonny.com/courses/the-way-you-look-at-me-cocktail-piano-1/) at the same time so that I don't get too over eager and focus on really learning the L1 material. Emi O
Hello! I just joined and I'm in Seattle area! I chose Cruella De Ville as my first lessons. So fun!
chris w
Hey I just joined. Living near the zoo. Have been a vocalist for most of my (long) life, now trying to get fluent in piano. Have tried several online courses, this is the best organized and thorough.

Rachel P
Hi Brendan, I'm not in Seattle, but I am in Vancouver, Washington near the border of Portland, OR. So far, I don't see anyone from Vancouver. I'm crazy about this PWJ. It's hard to find an in-person jazz piano teacher who is as good at teaching as Jonny. Most of them have not had any training to teach and it shows lol. Brendan D
Hello @Rachel P! I have relatives down your way. 🙂 And, yes, PWJ is great! Wonderful community and @Jonny May is a fantastic instructor (and pianist).
Rachel P
Cool! It's really taking the boredom out of the Covid stay at home lifestyle lol. I'm trying my best not to watch too many of his lessons....not to move on too fast before really digesting the materials both in my head and mostly my fingers, but the temptation is there! Robert N
I grew up in Seattle (well, technically it's now Shoreline, but when I lived there the address was Seattle) and did my first year of college at U of Washington. I'm in Portland, however, now.
chris w
My daughter is in Portland. Interesting town! And yes Rachel, I'm also trying to not get greedy and grab everything Jonny offers at once. Too much good stuff! Sticking with three tunes to start.
Michael U
Hey everyone, I'm in Eugene. Nice to see that PNW has some representation. I just completed the Amazing Grace course which was awesome.
Lois R
I live in Snohomish, WA. I took a year or 2 of lessons when I was 7. I remember I made it to the Spinning Song. Then I didn't have a piano. My first purchase after I became a nurse was a used piano. I love playing but have not progressed very far. I joined pwj in May and have made significant progress with his program. I have finished beginner fundamentals part 1 and I'm currently working on part 2. Emi I 💘 love your posts!!!
Brendan D
@Lois R We used to live on the Eastside, mid-plateau, for many years. Then, after a detour through Colorado, we landed on the Westside, in Ballard. Kinda fun. Take care!
Lois R
I lived in the north end of Seattle 104th ne, just off 35th. Then moved to Kirkland. Gratuated from Redmond high school. Raised my kids in Bothell/Woodinville area. Then moved back to my husband's home town where he was born and raised Snohomish.
