Linda J
Hi there! As for new years resolution we started Jonnys 10lessonBluesChallenge in the FB group but maybe the forum is a good place to share thoughts, ups, downs, goals, highlights, downlights...?! I'm really happy not to do this journey on my own because if we do this together it hopefully prevents me from course-hopping 😉 look forward to watch your videos! It seems like its really getting easier from posting to posting. So lets take baby- or giantsteps together! Looking forward to read from you all! So who is on blues-board?????😎😎 The last few days I worked on Lesson 1+2. I can do the easy blues shuffle - the intermediate one is too hard for me at this time so I'll stick with the basic one's.... bc the upcoming lessons contain improvstuff and this is completely new for me and thats why I think it's a good idea to stick with the easy blues left hand. Or what do you think?? Have a great start 😊
Joe S
Nice challenge. 🙂 I'm doing Lesson1 of Challenge of 2 right now. I've been experimenting with the "chromatic action" thing (I think that's what Jonny calls it 😎), and trying to match the Backing Track. Also trying transpositions in the keys of G &F (which so far doesn't fit the Backing Track.😎) I hope to post soon this weekend.
Joe S
@Linda J I posted for it in on the PWJ Facebook page today and gave you credit for starting the challenge. I think it is a good challenge. The 10 Blues Lessons are probably a big reason why many members joined PWJ.
Ido B
Hey @Linda J! I may try to jump in on this challenge at some point. 😃
Elisa
Hi Linda, I'm IN! A little late, but it looks like there is no time limit. I've been working on the improv in G and also the slow blues quick tip, so now I'll go back and see what the 10 lesson blues challenge is and get started. Uh-oh -- does this mean I'll need to post a video? 😬 --- Elisa (aka Nana N Poppy)
Linda J
Hi there! Great to have you on!!! How is it going for you? For me...well, i started 3 weeks ago and I'm still working on lesson 3-4. But I don't rush... I recognised that it might be a good idea to build foundations first and so I'm working more on the intermediate foundations than the blues but I will continue with blues but I'll take my time. But I always look forward to your videos on facebook for the blues challenge!!! Keep it up💪👍😍
Joe S
Hey Linda, Sounds like a similar track for me to. I initially joined PWJ to continue with the Blues Challenge but then did foundations courses when I self-assessed and recognized that I was not where I wanted to be yet. Then I came back and re-assessed some more. Starting back, I'm already seeing differences between Challenge I & II . Taking your time, as long you allow for consistency, is a good thing. Look forward to your videos in whichever course you choose! 😎
Belinda S
HI all - sounds like I'm on the same page - I'm going to look at doing the Intermediate Foundations Challenge and the Blues Challenge as well. Late starter though, until visitors leave at the end of the week! Will report back once I've had a chance to get go over both challenges again and get a routine in order.
Elisa
Hi Linda, Joe, Ido, and Belinda, So here is where I'm at today (btw, this community idea is brilliant!). Have gone over Blues Challenge #1, lessons 1, 2 and 3. They were review of things I'd learned in other courses with PWJ and it was great to review and solidify things. I will stick with the easy left hand shuffle -- I might do that my whole life! I also did a tutorial with a friend on how to post a video on Facebook, since I am taking part in the Using Facebook Challenge (ha!). I'm traveling now so that will be my excuse for not posting anything soon, but at least he showed me how to give FB access to what I take pictures of on my phone, so that's a step.

Joe S
I'm on Lesson 2 of Challenge 2; prepping for post; probably a couple of days away... 😎
Elisa
I've completed lessons # 4, 5 and 6 (Challenge 1) and started on 7. Still lots of review, but it looks like #7 will begin some new stuff. I've found that up slides and down slides are not very natural for me -- cause a lot of tension in arm. More natural is to just use two different fingers to play each note in what would have been a slide. Sounds more "bouncy" and less "bluesy" but at least its not nearly as tiring! Elisa
Where are you guys at now? I finished lessons #7, 8 and 9. Whew! After #10 I guess it will be time to post a progress video. When the reaches are too long, I'm doing variations like C with the thumb instead of stretching to C with the pinky -- it works for me. Getting better at the slides.
Joe S
Currently working on The 10-Lesson Blues Challenge 2 – Lesson 2, Part B. Getting my left hand pinky to keep striking during the reaches/extensions has been a challenge for me too.
Colleen Z
Hi! I'm late on this thread, but want to join in if anyone is still doing this. I'm ready to take the dive into late intermediate/advanced land for the blues after taking beginner blues lessons on this site for a year and a half. To post on fb, do you label your video as 10-lesson blues challenge?
Elisa
Hi Colleen, good to have you here! I'm definitely still doing the challenge, though I'm terrible about posting. I think we are supposed to label it as 10 lesson blues challenge -- but maybe someone more familiar about posting will chime in and confirm. How is it going for you? I got stuck in the middle of lesson 10 on the beginner blues challenge, and got distracted with other stuff like the weekly challenges and fundamentals courses. I'm just figuring that every thing I do will move me up tiny baby steps. Will look forward to seeing a post of your blues playing! Joe S
Despite daily practice, I am still stuck on The 10-Lesson Blues Challenge 2 – Lesson 2, Part B. I am considering recording for a Student Assessment with Jonny.
Linda J
Hi there :-) I'm still working on lesson 4 😅 Looking forward to watch your videos!!! Keep it up - same do I :-)
Joe S
Finished all of Lesson 2 of Challenge 2. Starting on Lesson 3.
Elisa
You go, Joe 🙂 I'm still where I was (middle of lesson 10 of the first course), still distracted by the other quick tips and challenges, but having lots of fun! --Elisa
Emma Collingwood
I'm in this with you all. I'm still chipping away at the lessons and am learning all the licks in lesson 9 at the moment. I'm really enjoying it and am slowly and steadily making progress. I'll post on FB once I have finished all 10 lessons and I'll try to combine everything I have learnt into a blues improv video.
Elisa
HI Emma -- Welcome to the challenge, great to have you with us 🙂 I did it! I just finished lesson 10! Yippee -- I actually did do the pat on the back that Jonny says to do 🙂 I'm traveling right now, practicing on my little travel keyboard. I will post when I get home and can use my real keyboard. I like your idea, Emma, of trying to incorporate a bit of each technique in the post . . . will see if that's possible when the camera is rolling --haha. (will show up as Nana N Poppy on Facebook)

It stimulates me to focus on finishing this course. 💪 I started the 10 lesson challenge in October 2019 and wanted to finish the lessons before Christmas 2019. But distracted by so many attractive PWJ courses. I’m now at the end of lesson 7 (Rolls). There’s so much stuff in each lesson! Looking forward to all the blues video’s. 😀

Looks like some members are starting another challenge on the 10 Lesson Blues Challenge (2)....but the concepts are likely to advanced for me at this time. I',m planning on joining one or both. Where are you at?
Elisa
Hi Yvonne, We're still doing the challenge and would love to have you join! The others have been better about posting their progress on Facebook than I have. Where I'm at is have finished the 10 lesson Blues Challenge 1, but have gotten distracted with foundations and jazz lately. Will look forward to seeing your posts on FB! --Elisa (aka Nana N Poppy on FB)
