Sandra D
If the devil appeared on my piano bench and told me he would put all the jazz I wanted in my fingers, I would have to say, "Too late, Satan. I already gave my soul to Bill Evans."
James F
Evidently, some people really dig Bill Evans. 😄
Sharon Kae D
I am somewhat new to the jazz greats of the past, but I am certainly trying to broaden my horizons, and listen to more of these greats that Jonny has mentioned, along with PWJ members. I plan to check out Bill Evans. Thank you, Sandra. I really do enjoy Brian Culbertson, and have many of his CD's. They are a favorite of mine as I travel along the music highway. Sandra D
Hi Sharon! Evans was classically trained and did not distinguish between classical and jazz. You will hear a lot of classical in Evans and a lot of Evans in classical! He is like Chopin; pleases your ear and breaks your heart. He and Miles Davis revolutionized jazz, but Evans did not think he had "talent." He said he just worked hard. What a wonderful discovery you have ahead of you! Best, Sandy
Sharon Kae D
I know this thread is almost a year old now, but i wanted to share who has become one of my biggest inspirations in the last year, and that is Beegie Adair. I have become a forever fan! Her playing is just magical. Whenever I listen to her interpretations of many of my favorite classic ballads, it is like being transported to another realm. When I sit down to the piano, and go through my books of lead sheets, always at the back of my mind is, "How would Beegie interpret this?" It is such a lovely musical journey. Jim H
There is almost 0 in braille music jazz. I would love to have something that can play the next note or chord step wise, so I can immitate it. I wonder if there is such a thing as MIDI transcriptions. I sometimes almost hear what Bill is doing here and there.
