Hi PWJ Members!

This month's spotlight goes to..........

Josh Walsh! :classic_biggrin:   @Josh Walsh

Please join me in congratulating him!

Where are you from?
Cleveland, OH

When did you start playing piano?
When I was a toddler, picking out melodies from church hymns (poorly).

What got you interested in learning music?
Mr. Rogers.

What is your favorite style to play?
Blues.

Do you have any favorite pieces to play?
I get more enjoyment out of playing other people's favorite pieces.

What has most helped you most in improving as a pianist?
Practice.  Specifically daily practice.  And by practice I don't mean playing things I already know how to do.

Do you have any tips for other PWJ members?
Set an intentional goal that you can achieve in a month.  When in doubt, think smaller and faster goals.  It's easy to get overwhelmed with everything the courses have to offer.  Be okay with just picking one little, tiny thing and working it into all your playing.

What is your favorite part of the PWJ Membership?
Watching my friends in the community improve and share their progress.   I love that at our scale, our community has remained so encouraging and supportive, and not fallen into much of what Facebook has become.

What are your future music goals?
To make Jonny May say "wow I wish I could do that!"

Do you have any words you try to live by or a favorite quote?
"A human being is a part of the whole, called by us “Universe”, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest — a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. Nobody is able to achieve this completely, but the striving for such achievement is in itself a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security."
