Katie Rushing
Hi PWJ Members! This month's spotlight goes to.......... Eiress Lamy! @Eiress L Please join me in congratulating her! Where are you from? I am from a small town in the Midwestern part of the United States, Willard, Missouri. When did you start playing piano? I started playing piano in the sixth grade. I was already playing the flute in the school band and I had cousins that were active in music and they were a big influence. What got you interested in learning music? My mother had studied piano, so I had her collection of sheet music and books. I studied classical repertoire and participated in the American College of Musicians - Piano Guild Auditions. I did not get introduced to Jazz until I went to college. I would bring my lunch everyday and sit and listen to the two jazz ensembles rehearse at 12 noon and 1pm almost every day. What is your favorite style of piano music? I like both classical and jazz. What has most helped you most in improving as a pianist? Mostly, showing up and practicing everyday! Do you have any tips for other PWJ members? Don't try to practice music at a tempo that is too fast. I have a tendency for this.Practice the whole selection at a tempo slow enough to get the challenging parts correct. I have to remind myself. What is your favorite part of the PWJ Membership? I like interacting with fellow PWJ members and listening to their posts. They are very influential, encouraging and inspiring. What are your future music goals? I used to like to teach, but it has been many years since teaching. Mostly, I think I will concentrate on learning music for family entertainment at this time. Do you have any words you try to live by or a favorite quote? I try to live my life by "the Golden Rule" from the Gospel of Matthew 7:12. "In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you". Others are just as deserving of respect and consideration as we believe ourselves to be.
