Dieter F
Is there an option to reharmonize Beat 10 with a passing chord to beat 11 (lead sheet attached) ? Beat 10 holds Gm7 for the whole beat and I am trying to make it a little bit more jazzy, especially finding a passing chord to the Bb7m/Eb7 in beat 11. Thanks in advance for your suggestions. Robert S
I played with this a tiny bit. First, I’d add another melody Bb on beat four- actually, it works better on the and of four. Anyway, here’s my harmony suggestion: Lets say you have a G and F seventh shell in the left hand. If you voice the right hand on beat two and three as (top to bottom) Bb, F, C you will have a g-11 (with the 7th doubled). THEN on beat four with or with out the added Bb melody note, shift the right hand voicing to (top down again) Bb, Eb, Cb. (Really, it’s Bb, D#, and B natural but it’s easier to keep them all the same). The left hand stays with the G-F shell. This creates a G7b9#13. This functions like an upper structure chord because the movement in the right hand sort of (Sort of) mimics the tritone substitution for the V of the upcoming Bb minor seven chord (Which would be B7 substituted for F7). I tried the F7 and it sounds…no good. This was better. I kinda like it this way.
