  1. Thank you Brendan.  I have been using the exercises and they do help.  I'm sure that I just need to practice it more.  I can feel the hands separating but I'm not quite there yet.  Appreciate your suggestions.

  2. Hi everybody.  I can't believe that I have been a member of PWJ since January last year and am just now finding the forum.

My name is Mike Stoll and I live in Baltimore, MD (actually in Dundalk) where I grew up soooo many moons ago.  I moved away when I was in my early 20s to the Northern Virginia area (basically Washington DC) where I worked, sang and lived for 45 years.  I moved back to Baltimore in 2018. Who says "you can never go home again"?  I did and I highly recommend it.

I have been a singer most all my life, singing in chorus in high school and started learning Barbershop in  1968.  In October 2018 I decided to teach myself piano and feel really lucky to have found PWJ in January of 2019.

I have been hard at work learning music theory as it applies to the piano.  With a head start from my singing days, understanding it has been natural to me. This biggest frustrations for me have been getting my hands to work independently and I don't seem to be able to play songs at an entertaining pace.  For now I'm chalking it up to not enough experience and playing time.

It's so very nice to be able to voice my frustrations.  Hopefully someday I'll be able to help others, but now I'm afraid that I'm in need of the help..

    Thanks for listening

    In tune,

    Mike
