  10. My history at the piano is not unique--took lessons as a kid, tried all kinds of methods, playing took a backseat to career, marriage and family.  My children (ages 12- 22) and career remain priorities, but I have more time to carve out a regular practice schedule.

Unlike other facets of my life, for some reason I seem to have ADD when it comes to learning to play the piano.  I love every style of music (except European alps yodeling).  I start off with the best of intentions to focus on the foundational aspects, yet, quickly get distracted with  forays into different styles or trying to play like a favorite artist, lose all focus, and gain nothing lasting in the process.

I am going to start with the Beginner Track, and just approach each lesson as a step on the journey to my goal of being able to develop an arrangement from a lead sheet in multiple styles, i.e., whatever catches my fancy at the moment.

  13. Hi! I am a  new member from Montreal... so as french is my mother langage, please be indulgent with my mistakes in English. I played piano since a while but mostly to harmonize the songs I used to perform. I am not a good pianist but I would like to improve my skills with the chords. since 2 years I play mostly my saxophone and used my piano to find melodies, tonality and the basics chords.

  14. Get ready to learn and deconstruct the classic Prelude #1 in C Major by J.S. Bach. Going phrase by phrase, we will analyze each of the chords and the harmonic functions to understand what we are playing. We will discover the use of beautiful musical devices such as “sequencing” and “pedal point,” which are as applicable to to music today as they were four hundred years ago! 17. Hi, I'm new here - still not sure where to start with the courses.....

I'm from Vienna / Austria and a hobby - musician. I play the e-bass and a bit guitar. (all of that definitely not on a professional level) I started to play piano again roughly 7 years ago. Originally I got lessons from the age of 7 to 11.

Due to my job, I have not that much time to practice. 🙁.

  22. Hi—

I’m Mardi and I haven’t played the piano in about 66 years.  I’ve been playing the fiddle until recently and because of some issues with my health (arthritis and Parkinson’s) I’ve decided to return to the piano and try my hand at playing the blues.  I happened on Jonny’s blues challenge and think that he’s a great teacher so I decided to try his lessons.

One of the most appealing aspects of his approach is the effort he makes to have his students become members of a piano playing community.  So I am joining this community in the hope that it will provide inspiration and support as well as a chance to contribute something of my own to others.
